I swapped out a failing HD from my Gateway laptop and tried to reinstall the OS ( Vista 64 bit) with the original recovery dis

Tried several internet found solutions but none worked. I reinstalled my newly formatted old 250 GB drive and it seems t work just fine, but I really need the extra storage for my photography.

check with the vendor web site make sure your new hard drive not larger then the mb bios can see. try updating the laptop bios to the newest rev. on the restore cd most of the older ones look for a partion on the main drive. if they dont fine one some of them will fail.
