I want my movie player sounds to go through tv speakers

I have a movie player ( DVDs) with the 4 speakers and woofer. I took all the speakers and woofer off and just want the player sound to go through my tv speakers. I have plugged the red and white connections into every hole on the back of my tv (Visio tv) that says audio and no sound. What else can I do to make this work?

Quick rule of thumb, for sound to go from one to another the wires will go Output --->Input.
So your TV will have to have audio inputs and your DVD player will need to have audio Outputs, of the same type, (without using adapters).

Can you list your DVD player brand/model and the same for your TV, this will make it easier to help.
