I'm just going to be reading free books specifically poetry. The new paperwhite handles pdfs well should I get that.
my new paperwhite was stolen 3 years ago and I've been waiting for a cpu upgrade but it hasn't come.

Paperwhite and other eink readers are great for reading, they tend to have good text, and are better on the eyes than normal tablets. If you are not getting a device for multi purpose use, then I would get an eink device.
