* **Total budget and country of purchase:**
Up to 400-500 euros, Germany.

* **Do you prefer a 2 in 1 form factor, good battery life or best specifications for the money? Pick or include any that apply.**
Best specifications for the money.

* **How important is weight and thinness to you?**
I don't care to be honest.

* **Which OS do you require? Windows, Mac, Chrome OS, Linux.**
Windows.

* **Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.**
Anything above 12 inches should do.

* **Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.**
Mostly for spreadsheet calculations and scientific programming (Matlab, VBA, R and use of loops and matrix operations)

* **If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?**
Not new ones, the only game I see myself playing is NBA 2K14.

* **Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?**
I would appreciate a good keyboard.

* **Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.**
From my own research I've come up to these two alternatives:

Lenovo V110-15ISK 80TL00AHGE matte 15.6 "HD display, Core i5-6200U, 8GB, 128GB SSD, without operating system

or

Asus VivoBook Max F541UA-DM1645 15.6 "HD / Intel Core i3-6006U / 8GB DDR4 / 256GB SSD / Free DOS / silver

I would greatly appreciate any feedback on which to buy. Essentially, I'm in a dillema whether to choose an i5 with a 128gb SSD or an i3 with a 256gb SSD. I don't plan to store media or next-gen games at my disk and I will be using a number of selected software that do not exceed 6-7 gb of space requirements each. Does the i5 noticeably upgrade the performance of the machine or should I go for the larger SSD?

Thanks in advance!

Solution
The i5 increase base speed to 2.3Ghz and allows for turbo up to 2.8 Ghz. The i3 is stuck at 2Ghz with no turbo. That's the only difference

http://ark.intel.com/products/88193/Intel-Core-i5-6200U-Processor-3M-Cache-up-to-2_80-GHz

Can't really say if there would be much if any difference for low end generic usuage. Though personally I like to stay with CPUs with at least 3Ghz.

I5 for sure. You can not easily upgrade CPU but extra storage is fairly easy. You won't slow down as long as you put the stuff you run most on ssd and the rest in a portable hard drive :)
