iBuyPower possessed spasming

My brother has an iBuyPower notebook (i-series 801). The first time around he took it to get fixed because it would frequently overheat, crash, and eventually it stopped turning on all-together. This past month it's been acting up in a different way...by jumping back to the starting point. Basically, if he clicks an icon on the desktop, his computer selects the first icon no matter what. If he selects anything from a menu, the first item will be selected no matter what he clicks. If he's scrolling through a website, the page jumps back to the top even as his mouse is still clicking the scrollbar. After he turns on his computer, he has a reprieve of about a half hour where he can use his computer normally, but then the problem just starts over again. Any ideas what could be going on and how to fix it? Please and thank you.
