Solved! Icons on Desktop do not work

Hello,
When I go into internet explorer and then come out of it, none of my other icons will work.

It could be a variety of issues, but first let's rule out any malware/viruses. Download and install Malwarebytes (it's free), start the computer in safe mode, and run a full system scan. After that, restart into normal mode, run IE, close it, and see if the icons work. If so, then it was a piece of malware. If not, report back.
