According to toshiba the max memory is 8Gb. Anthying beyond that is likely not to work.

I upgraded my processor and from the i5-2430M to the i7-2820QM and it recognizes the entire 16GB worth of memory:

Remember it's based on the processor bus speed and what quantity it will recognize, this unit does not have a motherboard limitation.
