Set the video resolution of the laptop to match the native resolution of the TV. If you can set the TV as a 2nd display then you can leave the laptop resolution as is and just change that for the TV.
Try a different HDMI cable.
Try a different HDMI input on the TV.
Try changing the order you boot the laptop and select the input on the TV that it's connected to. That will change the way the TV and laptop "handshake".
