Instant-on, what is it?

Hello out there,

I just bought an ASUS laptop and it has this feature called "ASUS Instant On". I simply don't understand what it is. Is it a replacement for hibernation or a whole new feature?
Another questions, is it safe to use "Instant-on" when traveling with my laptop from home to my university, WITHOUT hurting any internal parts of the laptop.

I don't trust much in such innovations when moving , so I prefer complete shut down to play it safe .
