Any Sandy Bridge i3 (that's second generation Intel Core i3) will be far better than just about any Core 2 Duo unless you compare the very low power version to a top of the line Core 2 Duo and even then, the Core 2 Duo would still probably lose. I vote i3. I can't be more specific/accurate about performance differences without more information about the CPU models in question.
