Hi there,

I have an old (2007) Gateway MT6916 and I wanted to upgrade the processor and RAM so I looked at the motherboard capability which is this

Part Number: 4006214R965GM Chipset Motherboard w/UMA Graphics (FRU)
Compatible processors accepted:
Supported: Intel® Merom Core Duo and Merom-Lite CPUs
Package: Socket-P, uFCPGA
FSB: 533/667/800 MHz
Thermal: Digital Thermal Sensor

Original processor: Part Number: 4506431RCore 2 Duo Processor T5250 (1.50GHz, 667MHz, 2MB) (FRU)

Original RAM:
Memory size 1024 MB
Memory type DDR2
Speed 667 MHz
Package 200-pin SODIMM
Refresh Auto Refresh and Self Refresh Modes
Supply voltage 1.8 V
Height 30 mm

I bought a higher speed processor:
Intel Core 2 Duo T7700 Dual-Core 2.4 GHz CPU Processor SLAF7 LF80537T7700

Brand:
Intel Processor Type: Core 2 Duo
Clock Speed: 2.4 GHz L2 Cache: 4 MB
Socket Type: Socket M, Socket P L3 Cache: 4 MB
Number of Cores: 2 Cooling Component(s) Included: None/Processor Only
MPN: LF80537GG0564M
Country/Region of Manufacture: China
Bus Speed: FSB Speed - 800 MHz UPC:0735858199353

So I opened laptop replaced CPU, put everything back and start the computer....everything starts fine, spins, the led is blinking like everything is running fine, the screen shows windows loading.....I hear the sound that the desktop background start to show and dang laptop shuts down!

Before i spend more money on wrong parts, CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP ME WITH SOME SUGGESTIONS OF WHAT MIGHT BE THE ISSUE HERE?

Is possible the processor FSB is incompatible with motherboard? (even though motherboard should work with 800MHz!)

FYI I have ordered as well Micron 4GB 2X 2GB PC2-6400 DDR2 800Mhz 200pin DDR2 SODIMM Laptop Memory RAM.,,that might not work either if the frequency is not accepted by motherboard.

ANY SUGGESTION IS APPRECIATED!

HAVE A NICE DAY!

What about the CPU temperatures? Have you checked that? Usually your BIOS should tell you the temp, while in there stay for a few minutes and see if there is a drastic change in the temp. If that is the case re do the CPU install.

Have you formated your hard drive after installing the new CPU? If you go back to the previous one does it do the same? If not it is very likely that you have to format your hard drive and do a clean install of all drivers, it does not always happen but I had a similar situation upgrading from a core 2 duo to a core 2 quad procesor

Come to think of it, rgd1101 is right,, the formatting would be necessary if you change mobo or platform altoghether. as he said before, does the BIOS recognize your new CPU? if so, what is the temp at idle?

I didn't get into Bios but that's good point, I want to try today. I wonder what if is not recognized?

So you guys don't think is a motherboard clock issue, right?
