Ok, so I recently reinstalled Windows, and installed Intel Rapid Storage Technology (for AHCI). After doing this, the startup item IAStorIcon.exe has been added (which is for Rapid Storage Tech). Also, the Intel Rapid Storage Tech service has been added, and is set to Automatic. My question is- Are both of these necessary for my AHCI setup, or can I safely disable them?

Solution
These are only needed if you are running or wanting to run a RAID array. If your drives are set to AHCI and not RAID in your motherboard, then they are not needed.
