Most likely it cannot keep up with the wi-fi speed setting in your router.
You should check what the wi-fi adapter in your computer, or laptop is capable of in speed by finding it`s brand name and model number.
It can be found in windows under control manager then system security option.
And then clicking on system devices, Ethernet and wi-fi adapters in the hardware list.
Google it for its hardware spec`s and what wi-fi speeds it can use from 54g, 144g, up to N-150 or N-300.
Next log into your router and see what speed it is set to broadcast at for your wi-fi network.
If it is set higher than what the wi-fi adapter of the laptop can run at.
