10 hours of battery life sucks in hospitals since they generally run 12-hour shifts.

Nobody uses there laptop or netbook for 10 or 12 HRS. straight, that's another fantasy........

[citation][nom]omikron48[/nom]LOL Read the title wrong.Thought it was "iPad Getting Schooled (taught a lesson), Hospitalized (sent to the hospital) and POS'ed (do I even need to bother?)...[/citation]

That title is called a hook, my friend. Intended to interest you and it was meant for you to read it this way.

[citation][nom]omikron48[/nom]I was merely pointing out the lack of thought behind such kind of statements.Who, in their right minds, would go for usability and critical mass and toss the specs right out the window? That only leads to failure and/or waste. The specs are important enough that you always try to get the right specs for the needed requirements. If all you needed to do was word processing, you wouldn't get yourself a gaming rig. Inversely, if you wanted to do some major gaming, you won't get a low-end machine. Also, comparing the iPad to a Toughbook is a mismatch. The iPad was not made to withstand what the Toughbook could survive. Comparing the iPad and Toughbook then using the price difference as an argument is stupid.[/citation]

He's using the price difference because they both serve the same market. What the ipad can do today had to be done on a toughbook yesterday. Pen Computing magazine clearly shows this trend over the last 15 years. This is the first time a tablet has been available under $1000 that wasn't a one-trick pony.

[citation][nom]tourist[/nom]To all the apple cavemen who just discovered fire, sonicblue pro gear 2002 http://www.pencomputing.com/frames [...] ogear.htmlCompaq tc1100 tablethttp://espanol.video.yahoo.com/watch/1217491/5389521I have both and the tc1100 is still in use today on my desk. And it does flash! This is apple hype, nothing new, just a better marketing plan.[/citation]

So you would rather have the tc1100 then?

[citation][nom]dtm4trix[/nom]as a hardware enthusiast I like seeing what apple comes up with. Its pretty cool stuff. I however hate their corporate culture of elitism and closed operating systems. I don't like the fact that big daddy steve jobs likes to think he knows whats best for all the rest of us. That is why I refuse to buy anything Apple any longer. I owned an iPhone and an iPod but sold them both. I now have a Droid and while there are some things that make the droid more difficult to use, there are many more things I like about the droid vs iPhone; microSD card, removable battery and way better network to name a few.[/citation]

[citation][nom]Pyroflea[/nom]I like how these exact pieces of hardware have been around for over a decade, and people only start noticing them when Apple makes one.[/citation]

Pretty much sums up what I was going to write.

What in hell is going on here? Tablet computers have been around for years, and all of a sudden Apple releases a crippled device and the idiot droves can't get enough? This is out of control.

Gotta love the iPad and its use for textbooks. I have bought my textbooks as eBooks for the last year and the added functionality is key.
I get em at eTextbooks - Buy eTextbooks @ eCampus.com - College Books and Gear Cheap!

title is not funny marcus, you mislead! how dare you be like main stream corperate press news 😛 interesting.. i'm wondering how much eye strain these things are going to pose and how much business is going to go up for eye Dr's due to these puny lil space savers. as far as books go a 10" screen is horsesh!t! not to mention flipping pages on that thing is going to be a nitemare load "ok class everybody open up to page 301" oh well it's all in the software at this point but if i catch them playing online poker or video games on these things it will be the first computer on the moon!!! also on the bonus side less locker running to the lockers between classes to switch books, you'll lose about 40 lbs of weight in the back pack on average for home work...but that might lead to more child obesity since it's about the most work out kids get any more, plus we know how well kids and electronics mix if they can't withstand 3-4G's {pun intended} i'd hate to replace this thing every time the kids drops one cuz the screens took a turd when it hit the ground or smashed by a book in the back pack/locker { remember the first ipod nano touch screens?!@#$@#%^&*} now if they can just get that darned intel robot to be the maître d’ and servers {pun intended} then there'd be no tipping any more ('cept maybe the robot {if gateway makes them) by teenagers in the middle of the night 😉

I always thought the use of an iPad would be amazing at a car dealership. Think about it: how impressed would the average person would be if they said "Show me the Carfax" and you pulled out an iPad for them to look at? Also you could keep a central server with all the current models, mileage, etc. so the salespeople would never be wrong. Also you could coat a car lot with Wi-Fi in one or two N routers.
