Hi,

I use my iPaq as my MP3 player. I am looking for a device that will
work as a remote control so as I do not have to take the ipaq out of
my pocket to change volume, play/pause etc.

I have seen the HP bluetooth headphones but as I already own a good
set of earphones I am loath to change them just for the remote.

Does any one know of a device that could do this.

Thanks in advance

You want something to act as a remote for the handheld, palm-sized device?
Wow - a lot of the times these type devices ARE the remotes.

With all merryment aside, if the scenario is one where you have the device
in your pocket and you have access to a computer you can find several
remote control peices of software where it will give you a virtual screen on
the PC that controls the PPC. That is, assuming you either have a wireless
networked PPC or a big cable running out of said pocket to hook it to the
PC. Besides, the bottom connection of Ipaqs in general tend to b a bit too
fragile to leave hooked up in a pocket.

Infrared is out of the question, since it is in your pocket. Otherwise you
could use something like a IR keyboard driver and either the keyboard or a
programmable remote with the keys needed learned by said remote.

Well, that does leave bluetooth. And one thing that might work fairly well
is a remote control hooked to you device via bluetooth by which you can
control said device. And such a device does exist, known otherwise as a
bluetooth keyboard. The bad news, though, is that an unfolded bluetooth
keyboard is actually bigger than the device you are trying to control...

Finally, there is the off chance that you can map a couple hardware keys on
the PPC to do what you want with the music player, and with a little luck
you can change songs, etc. by feel either through the pocket or within it
without having to pull the device out and look at it. This might be the
best comprimise, and eliminates both the need of a cable and/or battery
powered interface device while allowing the unit to be tucked away.
