Question Iphone connectivity and port options

In my laptop/dock setup, i have two available ports. One is a Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port and the other is USB 3.1 Gen 1 port. I backup my iphone Xs-max (512gb and nearly full) on an external hard drive (WD My Passport Ultra which is not SSD) which is connected to the setup via USB 3.1 port.

My questions are:
  1. Can I connect my Iphone Xs-Max via the available TB3 port? What kind of cable should i get for this? When i searched online, there was no TB3 to lightning cable, only USB-C to Lightning Cable?
  2. Will it backup my iphone faster if connected via TB 3 port compared to USB 3.1 port? Currently the backup via USB 3.1 is very slow

Other Details are:
  1. Dell XPS 15-7590 (i9, 32gb ram) connected via TB3 port to Dell Dock WD19TB

thanks

Your iphone only provides USB2.0 (480Mbit/s -> 60MB/s at max. theoretically). That´s the max. speed of the lightning port.

The HDD won´t improve its speed if you connect it to a faster port. USB3.1 (625MB/s at max.) is already providing more than enough. HDD´s can have a transfer speed of about 160MB/s , depending of file sizes transferred.
