Both laptops have CPUs with clock speeds above 2.0GHz so I'm not sure why you stated 1.5GHz in your thread.

In terms of CPU performance, the quad core AMD A8 3500M cannot beat the dual core Intel i5-2410M. It's not even a close contest.

On the integrated video side of things, the AMD A8 has the Radeon HD 6620G which basically is between the performance of a desktop Radeon HD 5550 and HD 5570. The Intel HD 3000 graphics core is a little faster than the desktop Radeon HD 5450.

If the most intensive task is converting music, then either laptop will be fine. If you are doing something that is really complex like converting video, then Intel would be the clear winner.

If games are a high priority then get the AMD laptop.

The HP will offer better graphics performance but the processor isn't as powerful as the Toshiba.

The HP is equipped with a 4-core AMD cpu that runs at 1.5Ghz but will boost itself up to 2.4Ghz depending on how many cores are being used(less cores higher boost I believe). On the other hand the toshiba has a dual core Intel Sandy Bridge i5 processor. This processor only has 2 cores, but runs faster and will perform better on most applications/games that don't utilize over 2 cores. However, the Toshiba one only has integrated graphics, meaning gaming is barely possible, even on lowest settings.

To be honest it depends on what kind of games you want to play. For the other needs you listed I think either one would work. What specific games do you plan on playing, and at what setting?

EDIT - AntiZig, I thought that the i5-2410m could turbo boost itself up to 2.9Ghz from the 2.3 it runs at stock?

not too serious games , most likely Madden or GTA . i don't mind if the processor isn't as powerful as Toshiba as long as it's fast. i'm gonna be downloading alot of music and converting them.
