I have the opportunity to buy a: HP Pavilion dv8t-1000 CTO Entertainment Notebook PC

The seller wants $175, not sure if it is worth it or not as I can't find any selling information on this laptop, only replacement parts.

There are variable specs, but this one has:

  • -Display

Diagonal Screen Size : 18.4" diagonal

    Max Resolution : 1920 x 1080

Technology : High Definition HP Ultra BrightView Infinity Display

    -i7 Q720 @ 1.60GHz

    -4GB RAM

    -1GB Nvidia GeForce GT 230M

-Probably 320GB HDD (there is 282 total, im assuming here)

Here is a website that lists the variable specs, mine has the ones listed above. Link

Any specific questions on specs not listed here just ask, I will try to answer as fast as possible!

Is $175 a deal, OK, or too much?

Thanks!

Yea nothings changed from any day 1 reviews. You should have no problem with every day access.. screen looks good, you can easily upgrade the hard drive if you want. Your battery will probably be crap, especially if it is the original BUT you can buy a new one on ebay for a little over $20. I would rate it far more capable then any of the $200-300 budget laptops you can buy new.

yes but by the time you buy a new battery for it you could get something a bit better for almost 200$

heavy, using what as a benchmark? He is clearly buying something used or refurbished. What you are able to get and at what price changes constantly. There could be something better for $200 tomorrow, or he may not see anything even close for the entire week. Also it depends on the source. I could find some amazing deals on used laptops...on craigs list, but do I want to chance it?

unless his comes with a warranty he would be taking the same risk as getting it on craigslist or ebay, and you can typically find a better/ newer laptop for 200 on ebay, and if you watch craigslist an even better deal

Thanks for the input guys, I appreciate the discussion. I will see if I can get the seller down to $150, while I browse EBay.
