Is 6GB VRAM the same as 2x3GB SLI?

So, I'm trying to narrow down my budget for my new PC, and I had a question about SLI VRAM. I have an Aorus X7 Pro Gaming Laptop, and it has 2x GTX 970M, each of which is 3GB, in SLI configuration. Some people have told me SLI VRAM stacks up, essentially becoming more than each individual card, however, others have told me that's not true. SO what's the story? Does SLI VRAM stack, or is it something else?

It does not stack. it seems Direct X 12.1 might allow that but then only on DX12.1 cards. those 970s are effectively two 970 core s put together with 3GB of VRAM.

Nope, In sli the total vram is that of the smallest card.

3gb + 3gb = 3gb

It does not stack. It is supposedly going to happen with DX12 but you have to have DX12 games for that.

RAM is mirrored in SLi so a Titan Z has 12 gigs total 6 for each card but they dont stack.

It does stack up, but the other 3GB isn't usable, for reason I dont know.

VRAM is just mirrored.
