I want to get a quality built laptop,

but I don't really game that much.

Is getting the standard base model, No add on's Alienware laptop worth it?

before you say Apple or ASUS.

I don't like Apple (personal reasons).

and I have heard horror stories about ASUS customer service.

M14x you askin? It's good for just mainstream gaming (gt650m is almost more than adequate for gaming) since you see the alienware build attractive and do gaming not much i think it's worthed just for you.(with an assumption that you see other laptop like asus n46vz or vm less attractive design, but i would like you to see a lenovo y400 model first hand.then decide)

Yeah, depending on the price and components, Alienware are still in the game, you'll pay maybe 100-200$ more but you'll know DELL honor their warranty...

I have some horror story to tell you about ASUS ^^ In short 3 dead mobo, 3 GPUs (560ti) and a bunch of trouble regarding the communication (they take forever to responds) However, they send me 3 new motherboard, 1 new 560ti and repair 2 times my other 560ti (they were 560ti "TOP" version) 1 Xonar DX "DOA" and i hope the replacement will not fail on me soon...

PS: I"LL NEVER BUY ASUS CRAP AGAIN...

True story? If it is....
