Is dell inspiron 3542 i7 worth the price

Is the laptop worth its price? It's a bit less than 750$, is the i7 4510u and 840m (1 TB) worth it? Or should I get a 600$ one with i5 4200u and 740m gpu (500 gb hard disk) I just need a fast laptop, for quick University work, and being able to play the latest games, which one is the better option?

The GT 840M is faster than the GT 740M, so the laptop with the 840 is what you want.

But neither of those GPUs are the best of the best of mobile gaming. You'll be limited to 720p mid settings.
