Everyone will have personal opinions regarding laptop brands. Quality can vary model to model. Below is a link of 10 laptop brands that LaptopMag has ranked based on various criterias such as reviews, design, warrant & tech support since 2011.

Apple ranks consistently from 2011 thru 2016 as #1. HP started a #3 and is currently ranked at #6. Toshiba started at #4 and is currently in last place. The next most consistent brand in terms of maintaining a steady rank is Acer which has always been ranked at #8 except last year when it dipped to #9.
Spec wise, the HP seems pretty average compared to other laptops in it's class so it does not standout from the crowd. I prefer a laptop with a 1080p screen rather than a 1366x768 screen, since it allows me to see more at once. However, the nVidia 940mx is not powerful enough to play most games at 1080p so that means you need to lower the resolution when playing games. Playing games at less than max resolution of the screen will make graphics look a little less sharp, but definitely not terrible.
The only thing I do not like about HP laptops is the unusually large trackpad they tend to have. You can fit an iPhone 6 in the boarder surround the trackpad in most HP laptops. I prefer laptops with small trackpads; preferably less than 3 inches wide.
