I have an ASUS S551L Laptop with
Intel Inside Core i7
Nvidia Geforce 740m
HDMI
I want to connect an external monitor but it doesn't seem to work. I have purchased a 30cm 1.8m HDMI Male to VGA Male Video Converter Cable for HDTV DVD PS3 HDMI VGA. But the monitor just displays No Signal.

Is my laptop compatible to be able to do this?

Thanks in advance for your help.

You need more than a cable to convert HDMI to VGA, you need an active adapter. https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-Active-Adapter-Micro-USB/dp/B00879DM56 You will need to use the headphone jack for audio with that. If you want to use the HDMI audio then you need something like this...

Yes I went into the Window screen + P and selected Extend. Is this what you mean?
I did also going into control panel display - Change appearance of your display - detect - another display not detected.
