I currently have a Pavilion DV6. It is 3 and a half years old. Ths computer was $1800 when I bought it and I loaded it up.

It has an Intel Core2 Duo T9900 @ 3.06GHz, 8gb of RAM and 500gig hard drive.

I always look for replacement laptops but find that everything I see doesnt look to be really any better than what I have even though mine is getting older.

Currently I am looking at one with 3rd generation Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3820QM Processor (2.7 GHz, 8MB L3 Cache)

Loading that with a 1T hard drive and 12gb of ram, comes in at about $1200... much cheaper than mine was 3 years ago.

Is it worth it?? Is it any better?? Will I see a difference in performance???

This computer is my life... but I use it mostly for work, facebook, email, skype, website updates for my company, downloading stuff. I dont use it for games.

I don't know much abut processors.... but is there much difference between these two??

Can someone explain the differences to me?? And what would be a worthwhile upgrade?

There is a substantial difference between an older Core 2 Duo and a modern i7; however you probably won't notice it since you mentioned pretty basic uses for the laptop. For the kind of uses you mentioned a C2D should be fine. IMO, it wouldn't be worth it for such uses.
