I have been using an old hp laptop for the past 3 years and its time for an upgrade. I do very light editing of 1080p video mostly for trim and paste jobs. These are the specs of my current laptop.

2.2 GHz Intel Core2 Duo T6600 Processor (2 MB L2 Cache, 800 MHz FSB)
4 GB DDR3 RAM (2 Dimm),
500 GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500MHD (shared) with up to 1.6 GB total available graphics memory Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit, Up to 4 Hours of Battery Life

And these are the specs of the ux31a.

Intel Core i5-3317U 1.7 GHz-2.6ghz turbo 4 GB SO-DIMM,
128 GB Solid-State Drive Backlit Keyboard,
5 hours of battery life 13.3-Inch IPS FHD LED Screen, Intel HD 4000 Graphics Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Would it be right to say that the ux31a runs slower on average than my current laptop?
Can it handle simple cut and paste youtube vids?

Quite the opposite, the i5 is almost twice the performance of your current cpu. And with the ssd, files will be accessed 10x faster meaning a much snappier feeling in just about everything. Not to mention faster ram and better graphics.

the i5 will be faster and you will notice a major performance increase with the ssd. ux31a will be an upgrade my question is what is the screen resolution? If you edit 1080p video then you may want to invest in a 1920x1080 screen.

Yup it has a 1920 x 1080 matte screen. Either way, whats the benefit of using a full hd screen over a 1366 x 768 to edit 1080p video? I'm unsure of this.
