Is the V710 really out

I have read that some individuals have been able to buy the new Motorola
V710 at Radio Shack. I am sure that the new phones will be in very short
supply but is it true that they are available currently at Radio Shack. Has
anyone been able to get one from there or for that matter anywhere (other
than ebay at a very inflated price). Speaking of price, what is the retail
price of the new phone.

I would really be interested in any feedback on the phone, (voice quality,
battery life, Bluetooth, etc.)

Yes; I saw and handled one there. But I'm not eligible for an update
until September 1st, so I didn't buy it.

And I probably won't buy it until they fix it to let me upload the
address book to my car.

Retail at Radio Shack on the V710 is $519. I think the
2-year-contract price ends up being $249 after that rebate, which
would make the initial price $319.

Would it have been cheaper to buy it at a VZW corporate store rather
than at Rat Shack?

No idea. It isn't in the VZW corporate stores yet...Radio Shack
apparently had an exclusive window or something.

It could be in the VZW stores as soon as tomorrow, or possibly by the
11th, from what I'm reading.

i just talked to verizon and this phone will be in their stores next
thursday, august 12th.

If you're eligible for the "New every two" program, then it would cost
$100 less at the VZW store; otherwise, it's the same.

The price is the same from Verzion, at least their currently online store.
If you go to http://www.vzwshop.com/motorola as someone else previously
posted and step through the system, it shows the price at $249.99 and that
price 'reflects $70 savings'.

I can't wait for this to hit the Verizon stores! I've been wanting
anywhere-Internet access via my PDA for years...

hundred dollars you can get a good quality digital camera with a first
class lens.

I wish the cell phone manufacturers would concentrate some of their
efforts on improving the telephone functions of cell phones.

Supposedly everyone (not me of course) wants Bluetooth enabled phones
and this is the first one that Verizon is offering.

I would love to have a cell phone with bluetooth that I can use with my
car. I don't need the camera, data connectivity, games, downloads, etc.

But right now, the only phones with bluetooth are the high-end ones,
with all those bells and whistles.

I just wish that the 710's bluetooth capabilities weren't so
crippled--there's no way to upload the address book to the car.

Another silly gimmick. Give me a phone with super transceiver circuitry,
a good built in phone book, lotsa volume and decent battery life...and
leave the gimmicks who think life resembles cellphone features.

Harry,

I agree with you about what I want in a phone but Bluetooth is the one
feature that I have wanted in a phone. I do not need or want a built-in
camera. I do not want to download ringtones. I do not want to download
pictures. I want good sound, good battery life, voice dialing and now
Bluetooth.

It will not let you upload the phone book via blue tooth.

It suppresses the ring in the car's phone system, and in itself, when
connected by bluetooth to the car.

It's hard to call something a bug when the designers made it that way,
on purpose. A shortcoming, sure. Not a bug.

Call it a bug, a shortcoming, a failure, whatever; the bottom line is
that a function that should work doesn't work.

If the audio system is on, it is muted; further, the display screen say
"Incoming phone call." The problem is that if the audio system isn't
on, and you're not looking at the car's display screen, you won't know
you have a call.

I'm referring specifically to the bluetooth system in the Toyota Prius.
I don't know whether this problem exists with other bluetooth-equipped
autos. I do know (from reports, not from personal experience) that you
can get a ring with other bluetooth phones and this car.
