Only other option I imagine the OP might have in mind would be a switchable electrical outlet, but that would require a CD player be preset and start playing when power is applied.

Will submit that more information is needed.

Google "IoT switches". There are products that can do such things.

But then there is the infamous "Clapper" - would probably work as well.....

As mentioned above there are many ways to turn an AC outlet on and off.
That may not be enough if you want to turn on and play a disc since the player may not go turn on or go into play when the AC is turned on. It would stop a disc playing of course. An RF remote adapter would allow you to control the CD player.
