Ok so i got my laptop to a service to change the keyboard and asked them about cleaning them out and the cleaning costs around equivalent of 15-17 euros and told me that if i pay equivalent of 33 euros they clean it and also add an i5 first gen.

Currently i have an i3 380m
Nvidia gt 540m 1GB
8GB ram ddr3

will there be any diference in gaming if i get the i5 cpu?

Solution
Just like the others said, yeah it's not worth it. (But if it's all free, then it would be. :))

Your laptop is really old as it is. If you need faster performance in the future, buy a new laptop.

The i5 would definantly be quicker, but not by a lot. If you can get the i5 installed for $50 or less, then go for it.

thank you for your fast answer, im asking and its important to know if its worth it because here the minimum wage is 150 euros ( for 160 hours a month) and i dont want to waste that amount of money for no diference.

The only difference between early laptop i3 and i5 is turbo boost. The i5 has it, the i3 doesn't.

The i3-380m's max clock speed is 2.53 GHz. If the i5's turbo boost speed is significantly faster than that, the upgrade may be worth it.

Looking through the list of i5's, the fastest (i5-580m) was 2.67 GHz with a 3/5 turbo (that is, it turbo boosted by 0.3 GHz on two cores, 0.5 GHz on a single core, figure 0.4 Ghz speedup on average). So realistically you are looking at a (2.67 + 0.4) / 2.53 = 1.213 = 21.3% speedup at most (with a i5-580m). The speedup will be less with a lower-end i5.

I dont know yet what model they are offering, i will reply tomorow of the model because they said they dont have it yet and frankly i havent asked because i didnt knew there were diferences between models, i have to call them tomorow to confirm it but i will ask them which model they are offering.

How many models of the first gen. of i5 are better then mine?

Yep, it all depends on which i5 model they are offering. If you let me be honest, this deal looks like a bit dodgy, but I hope I'm worng. I just don't recommend letting them replace the CPU without making clear which model they are putting in your laptop.

its an i5 520m

Not worth it. An i5-520m is 2.4 GHz and turbos to 2.6 GHz on two cores, 2.8 GHz on one core.

vs. the 2.53 GHz of your i3, this is only a 3% to 11% speedup. (Well, I suppose if you won't miss the 33 Euros you could get it. But you usually a speedup of 10% or less isn't noticeable while you're using the computer.)

I also don't think it's worth it. You wouldn't notice any differences in daily use. You'd better save this money or get an i7 quad core which would be a true upgrade.
