Is This a Good Price for This Laptop?

A guy at my school recently put up an ad saying he was going to sell his laptop. It is a one month old Asus GL502VT with a 6th gen i7-6700HQ, 12GB of DDR4, GTX970, and Samsung 950 500gb ssd. Apparently it has nothing wrong with it. He just wants something else. His asking price is $1200.
Is this a good price or should I try to get him to lower the price? I think there's two other people interested so I don't want to ruin my chances of getting it either.

That's not a bad price. I just spent $900 for a Sager with i7-6700HQ, 8gb DDR4, GTX960m, and 1tb HD. I'd just check it out pretty good to make sure everything works properly, such as wifi and ethernet.

He said if he puts the original 512GB HDD back in instead of the current SDD he'll drop the price to $1000. Better or worse?

I'd pay the extra $200 and get the SSD.
