Good night,

I have a friend who is going to study things related to video and image editing.
She is going to use a lot of Adobe premiere, illustrator, Photoshop, Java, Flash and Maya (this probabably being the most resource demanding)

Is this laptop with these specs enough?
i5-5200U
8GB RAM
840M 2 GB

Or does Maya and that kind of problems "demand" a better cpu and GPU?

Thanks a lot!

Thanks a lot! Sorry for the high amount of questions but I just want to make sure that the Laptop will not lag or something when using it to study
I also saw this MSI laptop for a good price
Is it good for using with Maya and Premiere?
i5-4210M
GT 820M 2GB
8GB RAM

Maya definitely benefits from laptop with a quad core CPU and dedicated graphics. However, being a student she may or may not have the budget to buy a "high end" laptop. I recommend the ASUS N550JX-DS71T with a quad core i7-4720HQ with the nVidia GTX 950m if she can afford to spend $950.

If that is over her budget, then just get the best she can afford. Of the two laptops you mentioned I would go for the 1st one with the Core i5-5200u and nVidia 840m since Maya benefits from a more powerful GPU. While Maya can benefit from a professional class GPU like a FirePro / Quadro, those laptops are pretty expensive and out of reach for most students. A gaming oriented GPU is good enough for learning how to use programs like Maya.

It's a shame the quad core i7 model doesn't come with the 1080p monitor and 4gb 940m instead of the dual core i7. Don't really think that 4GB is much use in reality though with a 940m. Either way, both good deals for what they are when compared to anything in the price range.
