Is this laptop overkill?

Here are the specs of my current desktop:

i5-3570k 3.4GHz
Radeon HD 7950 3GB
8GB DDR3 2133MHz (2x4GB) Dual Channel

I'm trying to find a laptop that is around the same as that, or slightly better. For around $1400, I can get a Sager with these specs:

i7-4810MQ (2.8GHz - 3.8GHz, 6MB Intel® Smart Cache)
GTX 870M (6.0GB)
16GB DDR3 1600MHz (2x8GB) Dual Channel

I feel the 870M has the closest specs to my 7950, as even just lower models, such as the GTX 770M, are lower than the 7950. (A 780M is technically closer, but it is actually more expensive than the 870M on the sites I've been looking at.)

Do you feel the Sager laptop will be overkill? Should I step the ram back or anything? I want them to be similar, so I will happily use either device for projects.

(I found an i7-4700MQ with 8GB DDR3 and an 870M, but it costs around $1300. So, for $100, I might as well get the one with more power.)

Would going with something technically lower, like a GTX 680MX, and then having a faster CPU and 16GB RAM, make it closer to what I have? I know how to compare desktops, not laptops.

Thanks for the help.

TL;DR: Trying to find a laptop comparable to my desktop.
