Is uTorrent currenlty safe?

I just tried to install uTorrent, and Chrome said it was malicious. I know that uTorrent is the most popular BitTorrent client, so I would assume it's safe... Did something happen to the website in the past few months or something?

Yes, uTorrent backed by BitTorrent the company is safe to use. They recently added in-app ad units though which might be the reason for the Chrome flare up.
