So I got my second 6970 today and think I might be doing something wrong.

I've got an AMD octo-core at 3.8 ghz.
8 gigs of ram
Windows 8 64 bit
950 watt PSU

I've got both cards plugged in properly with a crossfire cable, they're detected in CCC and crossfire is enabled. But when I tried some games right before leaving for class, I saw no gains what so ever fps wise for borderlands 2 or battlefield 3.

Borderlands 2 gets around 40-50

Battlefield 3 gets 30-40 still.

I'm gonna try some more scientific fps evaluations from tomb raider when I get home.

In MSI afterburner I'm seeing GPU usage of about 40-50 percentage respectively for both cards. Is this normal? Any other ways to check GPU usage that may be more accurate?

I've got plenty of juice for them both with a 950 watt PSU so I don't think its that.

I'd appreciate any advice that can get me some better FPS.

is is in full screen mode?
crossfire will not work if it is not in full screen mode but since your second card is at 50% then idk. it sounds that the crossfire profiles are not working properly i would wipe the drivers and reinstall the nonbeta

I thought that was only with running OCCT?
"Yes. Just make sure you use Fullscreen mode ! SLI and crossfire are disabled in windowed mode by the drivers."

my crossfire setup only works when i am in full screen mode. (i have 2x7970s). i would look into it some more but i am at work and they block like half the internet

I'm familiar with the fullscreen issue and yes my games are in fullscreen. I'm probably going to try a complete wipe of the system later on tonight and will see if anything changes.

Will try this out when I get home before I wipe the OS.

Crossfire setup scored avg FPS of 46 right before the end where it crashed, so I have no idea what score it had.
So a single card scored an avg FPS of 26 with a score of 673.

Turning off Crossfire in CCC was fine, after trying to turn it on my system crashed to the new windows 8 blue scren of death and restarted. Twice crossfire remained off after crashing and restarting. After a third time of crashing and restarting Crossfire is enabled in CCC and working fine. Something strange is afoot.

On windows-8 I had trouble installing the WHQL drivers, but not the betas. Never got to the bottom of that, and I received (a few) similar complaints.

I'll try the betas first and then attempt the others if I encounter any problems.

*Sight* Same problem guys. On my brand new install of Windows 8, as soon as I hit apply in CCC to enable Crossfire, my system crashes and it is still not enabled after restarting. I don't know what to do anymore...
