ive tried 2 different mics for my laptop and niether work on my movie maker.what do i need to do?

Try the mics in another program, e.g. sound recorder to see if they work there and if not try them on another device.
If mics don't work on anything - most likely problem with mics
If mics works in another program - then re-check your settings for movie maker
If mics work on another device - possibly a dodgy jack

Use audacity to record Audio. I don't think movie maker even has an option to record. Just export the file to mp3 or something and load it into movie maker. Make sure you have Mic Drivers installed.
