Hi Guys,
How Are You,

Actually couple of days back, from one of my friend, I`ve purchased 2 jbl woofers GT5-S12s, ported enclosure, with separate chambers for my home. And finally also got an amp for it.

The thing is that due to which im very confused and want your kind appreciative feedback is that the placement of the enclosure in bedroom, currently I`ve placed it like this Image in vertical position.

The thing is that while playing tracks, I`ve noticed that when I stand up, the bass lacks, where as when I sit, i hear lot of bass. Also I noticed that in vertical position of enclosure, the bottom woofer gives more bass as compared to the upper woofer, although both woofers are the same model.

Secondly when powered off, I noticed that when I hardly knock the bottom woofer cone, it gives bass sound boom boom, and when i knock the upper woofer, it gives not that much bass sound like the bottom one.

For placement some people say that place the woofers face towards the wall, but with some space between wall and the woofers. So want your opinion on that.

Guys please help.

Bass changes in every position in the room because each dimension of the room creates standing waves.

The lower woofer is interacting with the floor to produce louder bass than the higher one. If you place the woofer horizontally they will both be oriented the same to the floor.
You don't usually aim a sub into the corner you place the woofer into the corner facing outward.
A trick you can try is to put the woofer where you sit and listen in each possible placement position for the woofer. Where the sound quality is best that would be the optical placement.
You can try exchanging the woofers in the cabinet...

I see, sorry, I was assuming they were a JBL built unit, not a DIY project.

Having had a quick look this morning, these were meant for use in a car, not a domestic hifi set up. In addition, from the adverts I have seen, they are geared towards noise level rather than sound quality, the low end audio spectrum covered, for a speaker of that size is crap; I have drivers of a similar size that are rated down below 10Hz.

It could be your friend has goofed in the design or wiring, the lower firing is going to get bass re-enforcement from the ground, whereas the upper facing driver gets no re-enforcement. To understand why, you need to read a guide on how speakers and speaker positioning works; sound reflection and harmonic re-enforcement. This design looks like it was meant to be placed on its side, rather than upright.

He may also have the + and - crossed on the upper driver.

You can try exchanging the woofers in the cabinet to see if one reacts differently from the other when in the same position. JBL woofers can have variability from sample to sample so I would not be surprised if one reacted differently from the other.

Thanks bro the horizontal concept works, I noticed it gives more bass as compared to vertical position.
Thanks bro thanks a lot.
