k55a will not allow install of windows 7

My dad does not like Windows 8 so I offered to install Windows 7. I have windows 7 pro on a usb disk but I couldn't get it to run. It wouldn't show up on the bios. I burned it to a dvd and after I adjusted the boot order it began to boot but froze. I double checked the usb and dvd on another computer and they worked fine.

I found this and I updated the security settings but that didn't help

I updated the bios to the newest version and that didn't fix the problem

I tried Ubuntu 12.10 and it booted and loaded just fine. I tried the Windows 8 install usb key and it also worked fine.

For just $5, you can install Start8 for Windows 8 and have everything feel almost exactly like Windows 7. I've been using it for almost a year now (go through all the Settings).

As for Windows 7, it sounds like something is corrupted.
