I have an old laptop in which the power button is essentially a part of the keyboard i.e. the connection is through the same flex cable. I am planning to build an HTPC with it.

The problem — I am thinking to remove the keyboard altogether and use a wireless one.

The question — how do I turn on the system once the keyboard is not a part of it anymore?

Solution
Yes it's connected through the flat cable. How you turn on the system, you find out which are the power connections to the motherboard and send the signal to them using another button. Question is, why bother removing the keyboard at all? No reason you can't still use the wireless keyboard with it.
