Keyboard not working

so I just took my laptop apart and when i came to putting the keyboard cable back in, it wouldn't go all the way in (i'm presuming it needs to go further, there is a faint black line and it doesn't reach that) and i can't close the little latch thing properly, however it closes fine when the cable isn't in.

in device manager, under keyboards there is two: HID keyboard device and ps/2 compatible device, i turned the computer on with no keyboard plugged in and hid keyboard was gone, plugged it in and it was back.

i think this has got something to do with not being able to close the lock thing properly, is it worth getting a new keyboard? i don't want to spend money on something that isn't going to work

Is the keyboard connector latch damaged in any way?
If so, just getting a new keyboard assembly might not fix the problem.

Why don't you go with a USB powered keyboard instead of ps/2 port.If possible try getting it replaced by USB powered.
