Solved! Keyboard not working

my laptop is password protected so i cannot do any troubleshooting without first putting the password. The keyboard is not working, not even the external one is recognized. How do I go about this?

When you power up the machine, there will be some icons in the bottom right hand corner. One of them is Windows Ease of Access and one of those will be the Onscreen Keyboard.

That should get you in to sort out the source of the problem.
