Oh, please, this is just being picky!
Ok, it does need some space but what were you expecting? To able able to "dance" with Kinect standing half a meter away from your TV?
I agree that many people don't have that much empty space, especially considering that the fun with Kinect will not be with single play, but do your really play tennis on the Nintendo Wii standing very close to your expensive TV set?

Kinect will require some more space, but that is a given, considering that your will be using your entire body.

I wonder how much of that space requirement is for the technical demands of the system, and how much of it is just for personal safety.

Arm going through TV will suck a lot more then WiiMote going through TV.

Kinect = fail... :D

If I want to wave my hands and jump like an idiot I'll go to the local stadium.

Motion recognition is nice but if it will work well for games... we'll see. I doubt that it will be more than e niche market.

as for space yea even small living rooms in apartments are at least 10 by 10 (at least in my area) so 6 feet isn't so bad

...eejits, you say...

When I bought my LCD tv way back when the rule of thumb was to sit about three times the screen size from the set to have an optimal view; 42" equating to roughly 3m. I'm no expert but from my experience it makes sense. So 6 feet of space implies a 24" screen, and I suspect most Xbox users surpass that, meaning most users will have that sort of space. Unless you like jamming to Guitar Hero on a 4:3 17" :)

Hi and welcome to shopping... err... oops, I think I'm being brainwashed.

I have the feeling many people won't have enough room and thus won't be buying it, but 6 feet is reasonable. After all, it's a motion system. I hardly see how you can efficiently move and expect the system to recognize you if you barely stand up with your arms stuck to your body.

I'm lucky enough to have a big living room even if I only have a 3½, but I'm still gonna wait to see some game reviews before considering it.

Please people Kinect is still in its infancy. Think back to the first 10 years of personal computing. You could not even dream of video games such as Crysis or Far Cry 2. Give Kinect another year, two if you are patient. Let's see what major game development firms can come up with in both game content and hardware/software refinement.
