Lag on all games?

I know there are a ton of threads on this issue, but I have read through about 50 this morning with no luck. Anyways, I have an older Gateway laptop with pretty awful specs. To my surprise, it runs everything I throw at it at med/low settings. It was even running Max Payne 3 and Far Cry 3 at lowest settings at 800x600 with a steady 25-30 fps. No problems for a long time. All of the sudden, I started to have major FPS drops at random times. They usually last for about 3-5 minutes, then the game runs super smooth for around 2-3 minutes, then another drop and so on. I have closed all the background programs, run all in admin mode, tried in compatibility mode, upgraded my graphics card drivers, fiddled with the settings in every game, and still no luck.

But when I upgraded my graphics drivers (here is the weird part), all my games ran perfectly fine. I went to bed last night thinking my problem was solved, but when I booted up my computer this morning, the same old FPS drops persisted. I'm a bit annoyed and really want to get this issue solved.

Win 7 Ultimate x64
4gb of DDR2
ATI Mobility Radeon 2600
Intel Core 2 Duo T5750
WD 320 GB HDD (forget exact model)

The laptop is the Gateway M-6864FX. Upgrades done a while ago, not recently, so I wouldn't think it would have anything to do with that.

could be cause of overheating and CPU/GPU throttling?

edit : download HWinfo, start it, go play w/e game you want, when the fps drops go check max temperatures.

Did, temps for CPU never reached over 87 C and GPU never over 82 C. Forgot to include that.

Hey bro . over 87c ? you mean they get close to 87c but not over it ? man anything above 60 c for CPU is Dangerous . & for GPU it better stay below 70 - 75 C

IF your temps are above the standards . its normal to experience lags

because hardwares slow theire self down to throw the load away & make the high temps go away .

so make sure to buy a good cooling pad for your laptop or cool it down somehow .
check the temps n make sure they never cross the standard limits .

by the way . it can be a VIRUS ! virus can put a heavy load on your hardwares . so try to do a clean installation of windows . & after that install a good AV software like Norton & clean all the threats .

& make sure your POWER OPTIONS are not on POWER SAVING mode
