Laptop Adapter into Monitor

Hey so I just got an Acer S202HL bd monitor and was given a faulty AC adapter with it. I noticed that my laptops adapter had near the same plug and so i tried it. To my surprise the monitor came on and worked fine but I'm kinda nervous about having a laptop adapter powering my monitor. If any of you know whether this is safe or not could chime back in that would be awesome. Thanks as always.

What are the specs on the adapters? If it's the same voltage and similar amperage then you're fine.

Original adapter: 12v 800mA
Laptop adapter: 19v 1A

Ouch, no. The amperage on the new adapter is ok, but the voltage is MUCH to high. I'd find a new adapter.
