Config: Core i7-740QM 1st gen, 8GB RAM, nvidia GT-435m, recently installed HGST Travelstar 7k1000 with recently installed Windows 7.

I have noticed this while gaming, that when I launch a game, it works perfectly fine and smooth. But after around 20-30minutes of gaming, it starts to lag very very badly, and soon becomes unplayable. Have had this laptop for nearly 3 years now. What could be the problem component?
P.S. - All drivers are up-to-date, freshly installed with the new Win7 installation.

There could be one of the following two possible reasons for the problem:

There could be heating issues(as your laptop is old) due to which your laptop could be underclocking the CPU/GPU.
You could check the temps using hardwaremonitor.
If thats the case then you should get it cleaned up.

If thats not the case then make sure that your laptop is not set on power saving mode and that it is connected to the charger while gaming. Many times due to power saving mode the laptop underclocks the cpu to save power when the battery gets low.

Most probably this should solve the problem.

As far as i can think of is the airflow and heat problem.

It's worth the try to:
1) Vacuum the vent holes on ur laptop to clear the dust
2) Use laptop cooling pad made of metal on the contact surface with strong air flow (coz metal conduct heat better)
