Hello!

I recently bought a new battery for my laptop. Since then it is charging very slowly. About 3-4% in an hour. Last battery charged a lot faster. Old battery was 4400 mAh and new ones lable says it is 5200 mAh. I was hoping someone can help me to understand what is going on here. When I charge this battery Aida64 says that charge rate is 725000 mW which seems to be very high. Also from Aida64 and BatteryInfoView it shows full charged capacity 48840 mWh and designed capacity 48840 mWh. It is a Lithium Ion based battery by COMPAL PABAS0241231 serial number 41167, model R428. The battery holds charge pretty well, but charging time is very long.Today it suddenly dropped from about 40% charge to 8% and says that battery level too low and connect a charger. Aida64 and BatteryInfoView now show wear level 10%. Designed capacity 48840 mWh and full charged capacity 43956 mWh. Last battery died on about 95% when my laptop suddenly turned off and wouldn´t start without the charger connected. It was an old battery and had alredy been showing singns of dyeing. This new battery has an indicator of its own which shows how much it has charged and it seems that windows battery indicator is showing right charge percetage.

Laptop specs:

Samsung NP350V5C A01EE
Processor i3 2370M @ 2,40GHz Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
Motherboard Samsung Electronics CO. LTD. NP350V5C-A01RR
Windows 10 version 10.0.10586.0
Battery lable says it is 5200 mAh and 10,8V.
Charger input 100-240V 1,5A 50-60Hz and output 19V 3,16A
BIOS: American Megatrends Inc. P10AAL, 04.07.2013

The questions are what could I do or try and what might be the cause? And if I am calculating right then capacity of this new battery should be 5200mAhx10,8V=56160mWh, but why is it showing 48840mWh and why suddenly I have wear level of 10%? I just bought it, but there is no manufacturing date also on a battery. BatteryInfoView doesn´t show manufacturing date either.

That is a chinese knockoff, they tend to cause more problems than they are worth. I have even had customer's bring me supposedly " new " batteries that would never charge past 40% or 50% because the cells die off quite rapidly. They are built to die and doesn't surprise me that you are having charging issues and very rapid loss of cells, that is how they are able to sell them so cheap. Name Brand Duracell or Samung branded

This is what you would need to get to ensure you are getting full battery capability: https://www.batteriesplus.com/battery/laptop/samsung/np-series/np350=v5ca01us/com12381 --- NEW duracell runs about $80

Used Samsung...

How can I check that the battery im buying is genuine not a knock off? Is there something that should be written on it? S/N or Product id? Or how do you know which is it? And is it right that the label says it is a 5200mAh battery, but calculations and battery monitoring software are showing that it is 4400mAh? Is it just a 4400mAh battery with a label that is lying to sell it for a little higher price. Windows 10 battery report actually doesn´t show almost any information about this battery. Only manufacturer and that´s basically it.

yes, it's kind of the same firmware cheat they use to make a 32gb SD card or Flash drive actually read and look like it's 128gb when plugged in. but in reality, when you transfer data, nothing transfers over because the drive is in fact not big enough. it's more than 99% likely that it's a 4400mAh with a 5200mAh printed on it. They are shady when it comes to knockoffs these days... What I have learned is OEM batteries will come with the company name on them i.e. Dell, HP, Samsung and they will also have a serial number, this serial number contains specific product identifiers that will prove it to be Genuine and not a knockoff. I know Dell will check for you to confirm Dell OEM, not 100% about Samsung though. The battery report, if it is OEM, will show all the information, the reason why it is not showing now, is because it is not genuine, and therefore can not actually read what it is as it would with a Genuine battery.

I tried re-calibrating this battery and it made no difference. Just added extra 9% to the wear level. I then went back to the shop and they agreed to replace it and even gave me a bigger battery without extra charges. It is also a "knock off", because it´s just that kind a shop which sells only non-genuine batteries and chargers, but this one at least charges and at least they replaced it without an argument. I haven´t yet tried it out for very long, but there is a weird thing about this battery also. It says in battery monitoring software and in windows battery report that designed capacity is 71280 mWh and Fully charged capacity 74844 mWh. Should I be worried that fully charged capacity is bigger than designed capacity or is it alright considering it is not OEM battery?
