My laptop will play regular DVDs fine, but when I put in a blu-ray disc, it does not recognize it as media at all. Explorer does not show anything mounted in the drive and when I try to play something from the drive I get a window asking me to insert adisc. Windows10 on a MSI GT70 laptop. This used to work but suddenly not recognized. Speccy sees the drive and says it should play blu-rays.

Thanks

Solution
My best guess is that the blu-ray portion of the drive is on the fritz. I have the same problem lately with the drive in my GT70, too.

I think you are right 1shado1. I used a second hard drive and installed a clean copy of windows 8.1 and Cyberlink PowerDVD, the computer was sold with windows 8 on it. It still did not work. So I am thinking I need to replace the drive. Based on some Youtubes, that should not be that difficult.

Yeah, it's about a 5 minute job, max. And that's if you REALLY take your time.
