Laptop Chilling Mat

I have a question.

Right now Im thinking about getting a gaming laptop. A 15.6" laptop maybe the size of the G55 or the MSI GT60.

If i were to buy a chilling mat for a 17" laptop would my laptop fit comfortably on it? Also would i need to get a 17.3" backpack (for the laptop) Thanks
