Laptop cooling>>Software solutions?

Hi. Are there any software solutions for laptops that will allow you to increase the RPM the mobo fan (or any other fan) runs on? I have an Acer 8100 thats experiencing cooling problems (shuts off if it gets too hot) and i'd like to try any software solutions before I resort to external cooling appliances. Any help would be appreciated.

Or you can try out SpeedFan. Both of these work, but I personally prefer Notebook Hardware Control because it has a battery life gauge and is more eye-friendly.
