Hello,

I recently got a new laptop (Lenovo Ideapad 720s) with an i7 8550u.

When i have the laptop charging while i use it, it will sometimes go to max speed on the CPU, which means the fans get louder and ofcourse it get hotter aswell.

So i was wondering if there is a way to make it stop doing that, because when its unplugged it is all fine

Solution

Control panel > power options > Change plan settings (to the right of the Balanced plan) > Change advanced power settings.

The only option in power settings for me is "Balanced"

Below balanced click on show additional plans. You should see Power Saver and High Performance options there.

In addition to this, make sure that the min processor state is set to something like 5 to 10% while plugged in for your chosen power plan (i.e. balanced).

I dont have any of those options in advanced options

There is no show additional plans option i can only choose the balanced option

Control panel > power options > Change plan settings (to the right of the Balanced plan) > Change advanced power settings.
