Hi! My laptop fan keeps on spinning up to maximum for no apparent reason. Even when it is idling and cool it can start to go crazy. Once the fan starts like this it won't stop short of restarting or putting my laptop to sleep (even left it overnight once and it was still going in the morning). Tried everything I can think of, cleaned the fan with compressed air and downloaded speedfan to try to control it, but none of it worked. Also checked BIOS and there is nothing about my fan there, so I wonder if this is a problem from when I installed Windows (7)?

My laptop has:
8G of RAM
An I7-4710MQ CPU
A GTX-970M GPU
and is 64-bit
(don't know if that is especially relevant)

Hi,

Here are some troubleshooting steps that may help.
- First is to make sure again that the fans and cooling fins of the laptop are free from dust.
- Apply new thermal paste as well on the CPU and GPU to help in cooling it down.
- If the same problem will persist, do check the manufacturer site of the laptop and see if there's any BIOS update available.
- And lastly, try reinstalling Windows 7 and see if that will solve the problem or not.
