Laptop for a 7th grader

Hello,
I'm looking to purchase a laptop for my 7th grader that will last him through at least the early years of high school. I've been looking in the $600. range. He'd like a 14" laptop, he's not into gaming but would use it instead for Itunes, internet, word processing, an occasional movie, powerpoint, etc.

What advice can you offer?

As long as no games ANY cheap laptop will do....dont spend too much as a LOT of laptops come into my repair company when dropped or damaged by kids...
